Vasaparken intervju - 19 feb 2017

Detta är en transkription av min intervju med Natalie, en 21 år gammal pratglad student från Tyskland som vid tidpunkten då intervjun utspelade sig turistade i Stockholm. Intervjun hölls på en bänk precis bredvid isbanan i Vasaparken på söndagen den 19:e februari. Intervjun som till en början var tänkt som en semi-strukturerad intervju som var utformad för stockholmsbor blev till slut väldigt ostrukturerad och öppen. Detta berodde på att intervjun enbart hölls på engelska vilket var oväntat samt att intervjun snabbt gick över till att vara en öppen konversation då den intervjuade talade väldigt brett om frågorna. Spontana ändringar skedde därför under intervjun. Någonstans i mitten av intervjun förklarade jag syftet med projekten och någon slags vision för vår produkt för att undvika för öppna svar (kan diskuteras om det var bra eller dåligt). Jag anser att denna intervju var väldigt givande just för att den intervjuade var en turist vilket gav en annan synvinkel på frågorna. Exempelvis kunde den intervjuade dra paralleller till dennes ursprungsland.

Timas: How old are you?

Natalie: 21.

Timas: So you’re not Swedish, where are you from?

Natalie: Germany.

Timas: What do you do?

Natalie: I’m studying political science at a University in a town located between Hamburg and Hannover.   

Timas: Why are you here, in this park?

Natalie: I’m here on vacation to see my boyfriend. I’m actually sitting here waiting for my boyfriend to get off work. I walked past this park and saw this ice rink which looked really nice so I’m just sitting here enjoying the weather even though it’s cold.

Timas: Do you like it here, in the park?

Natalie: Yes, I think the ice rink is really nice. I have never seen something like this in Germany, where the locals in a city can just come out and skate. I was also really surprised by how green it is, the grass and the trees.

Timas: How does a typical park look like in Germany?

Natalie: It’s a lot like this one but of course without the ice rink.

Timas: So just to describe our project a little bit further, we are here to identify a problem that has to do with the urban planning of Stockholm, and we have chosen to investigate this park. The goal is to come up with some kind of product to make it easier for the public to express their wishes and ideas for improvements or changes for this park.   

Natalie:  Yeah, in Germany we have these emotion-buttons in some public places where you can press the button with the smiley that expresses your feeling as a way of rating the place.

Timas: Interesting, we have actually talked about that idea. So our vision right now is to have some kind of display in this park with an app connected to it. You could then use the app to share your ideas or vote for other people’s ideas for the park which the screen then displays.

Natalie: It’s a good idea but maybe hard to implement.  I’m just thinking about whether people would actually use it. Having stationary buttons would probably be more cost effective than developing an app and it’s probably also less time consuming for the users. I mean it has to be easy and quick to use. But it would be nice to have a forum to discuss these ideas.             

Timas: Do you feel safe in this park?

Natalie: Around all these people and families? Yes, I have no reasons not to feel safe. This is my 5^th time in Sweden and I have never felt unsafe around here but I don’t know how it is during night time. A city can change its’ face during the night.   

Timas: Have you ever been in Stockholm during the night?

Natalie: Hardly ever.

Timas: So do you have any other ideas for this park, or parks in general? What should a park look like?

Natalie: One thing that I would like parks and other public to have is a charging hub where you can charge your electrical belongings. Parks should develop with todays technology and should therefore offer power, since everyone is running around with their phones and computers nowadays. A park is there for the locals to enjoy, to come and hang out in, and a charging hub would enable people to, I don’t know, just hang out watching a movie with some friends.    

Timas: And perhaps open Wi-Fi?

Natalie: Yes exactly! That’s partly why I went to visit the city library, because they have free Wi-Fi, thanks to ,you know, eduroam.
